Very interesting! Seems this Neo mix keeps coming up in bandogs and other hybrids mixes. What are your thoughts and also including the Serbian Defence Dog? I think the Neo brings something special I mean the old Neo which is pretty much disappeared from the modern type.

Lyndon Ingles and Vanells kennel is the best in Europe according to my research. You can't find eny originals like them. And After them I found one breeder in Greece working bullterrier a man with his wife having their kennel. He teaching them jumping over a "wall 🧱" qnd so on. Very good.

If one was trying to turn back the clock on the Mastino to the late 1980s or early 1990s ..What would be the most logical approach....Which breeds offer the most potential....and could achieve resluts quickly say 3 or 4 generation's....

I'm glad for Stelios and that a glimpse into his story is being told first hand. What makes you popular in these dogs today is something entirely different from what it was 20 years ago. You couldn't get respect on the internet without having proved yourself off-line by people who really mattered in the training and hunting worlds. I'm the furthest thing from a mastiff/mastino guy but Karma and I believe Suki we're two females that were highly functional APBT/mastiff type Bandogs. I believe their influences or at least one of them carries on through more than a few modern programs till the day. My hats off to Stelios and The On/Off Program.

Nothing but respect for Stelios. A true gentleman and in it for genuine working dogs, not just a fly by night breeder in it for a quick buck. Pure class and many new bandog breeders would do well to learn from his extensive experience.

Interesting interview. The guy.makes alot of sense. Especially after he clarified what he meant by not keeping the best for himself. He's not saying he keeps and uses inferior. He's saying if he doesn't need it he will let others have and use it. He's don't withhold the best out of fear that somebody else might catch up to him. He wants other people to have the top quality as well. And that also helps him if he is in need. I think that's a good idea. I like the idea that he's not so jealous that he thinks he's the only one that should have good dogs.

From what I heard, Brad was giving some excellent breeding information. I just wish it would have continued to play. It was right at the 1:00:24 spot when it did it both times.

Secretariat was never inbred to one of his daughters.....or for that matter was Secretariat's sire linebred upon ???? You always go to the father of what produces a superior dog ...Case in point if protection dog people followed the game dog breeders selection process..breeding diagrams..the results would speak for themselves...

Alano Español: Realidad No es mi intención polemizar pero comenzaré este artículo de opinión poniendo negro sobre blanco en lo que, para mí, son máximas que conceptualmente son certezas empíricas. Empezaré afirmando que Alano no hay más que uno, lo demás son gaitas para justificar la incapacidad selectiva para hacer raza partiendo de cruzados residuales del periodo de recreación del Alano Español; es decir: “niego la mayor”. El Alano Basati, el chato Alano, algunos villanos fuertes y perros de presa del país que agarran vacas o cazan, no son más que pseudoalanos con matices diferenciales propiciados por presión selectiva. Hijos residuales del bastardeo de aquellos primeros partícipes del proceso de recreación, ejemplo: Rambo (Nabarro) hijo de Turco por Arepa; Turco fue un medio bóxer y Arepa un descarte de Contera por tener mala boca y cerrada en Limón. El Alano Español actual es el resultado y culminación de un proceso de recreación, que no de recuperación, iniciado y consumado por Carlos Contera con la inestimable colaboración de algunos otros. La recreación comienza con tres perros encartados, una perra de Cáceres (Arroyo de la Luz) y una Dogo Argentino (Nieve). Si alguien piensa, de una forma absolutamente ingenua e idealista, que los perros encartados eran Alanos, que se desengañe: no lo eran. Txacur, Limón, Nabarro y Loli fueron perros de presa del país, perros-bisagra sin raza que fueron pernos necesarios, junto con un soporte fenotípico y funcional (Nieve) para hacer girar la selección sobre una funcionalidad y un tipo concreto, convirtiéndose en una población homogénea diferencial que fija los caracteres propios en tipo, carácter y función. Eso es raza. El Alano, a día de hoy, no es más que el heredero del Alano del Medievo en la raíz más profunda, en lo vernáculo, en lo atávico de agarrar, parar y dejarse matar antes de ceder en la presa, bregando hasta el último hálito… y poco más. El Alano actual es raza consolidada en tipo y función gracias a un proceso de recreación a criterio de uno de los mejores documentalistas caninos que tiene este país. El Alano nace sobre la idea romántica de recrear el mito medieval: el Alano zancajoso de boca irreductible, el Alano de viento certero con “aire” bajo las patas y mucho alcance; codicioso, sufrido, austero, seco de belfo, mordida en tijera. El Alano actual nace en los ochenta y culmina en los noventa con ejemplares como A. Goti, Alano absolutamente prototípico y arquetipo de la raza. Todos los perros que no sean como A. Goti, o tremendamente parecidos, no son Alanos. El momento culmen, cuando el Alano llega al cénit, es en los años 93-95. El proceso de recreación llegó a la cumbre y, sin solución de continuidad, el Alano empezó a descender por el tortuoso camino de la carencia de rigor selectivo; cayó, perdiéndose la raza y la tipicidad por el camino, hasta el infierno que vive hoy. Las causas son diversas pero, básicamente, podríamos decir -sin miedo a equivocarnos- que el proceso paralelo de cría conducido por aficionados voluntariosos y “buenistas” fue un monumental error conceptual. Este proceso desembocó en diversas asociaciones que en nada han ayudado al Alano como raza. Más bien todo lo contrario… Conceptualmente, este grupo de aficionados -repartidos por toda la geografía- pensaron que estaban en el mismo plano, en el mismo nivel intelectual de los recreadores de esta raza. Craso error: no lo estaban y confundieron el atún con el betún porque los dos vienen en lata. Un Alano además de serlo tiene también que parecerlo; es decir, tiene que ser representativo y diferencial en función y tipo. Perros mestizos y razas que muerden hay muchos, pero no son Alanos. Perros de presa del país, cruzados ligeros y mestizos mil leches los hay agarrando de forma extraordinaria. ¿Eso se traduce en que son Alanos? Es evidente que no. El Alano Español es un especialista insuperable en su función. El fenotipo del Alano es consecuencia de la adaptación a su trabajo; y como todo el mundo sabe, el oficio hace oficial. Y el oficio del Alano es seguir las ladras cuando jipan los punteros al levantar la caza, llegar y agarrar con absoluto desprecio por su vida. El Alano es un perro de presa, un presa ligero con alcance, un presa de boca irreductible, un presa de belfo seco y mordida preferiblemente en tijera o, en su defecto, una tijera invertida ceñida; un presa sublongilíneo corredor que, en mi opinión, debe tener entre 61 y 63 cm y entre 37 y 40 kg, con una proporción cráneo-cara de 63-37. Cuando hablo de Alano Español no hablo de esas aberraciones que se pasean por los ring y a las que un juez, que no tiene ni repajolera idea de lo que es la raza y que no ha visto un agarre en su puta vida, da mejor de raza. Me pregunto yo: ¿de qué raza?, ¿de los inútiles funcionales? Cuando hablo del Alano siempre hablo de perros de trabajo, de los que entregan el pellejo en el monte con vacas o guarracos; de los que no ceden, de los que no aflojan, de los que se dejan matar antes que entregar el pleito, de los que mueren agarrados con la boca candada como mandato divino.

very long winded, this could have all been said in an hour or less but i am glad it exists. i do not and have never had a dog from Brian and i will still say with complete confidence that he is one of the few, one of the FEW in this breed who still truly cares about producing quality Staffordshire Bull Terriers.

Ironically I'm from Manchester and I've probably seen 3 Manchester terriers actually in Manchester in nearly 40 years lol😂

I’ve got 4 alanos español and 2 staffordshire bull terrier. 4 alanos are around 9 months old now had them from a friend’s litter since he didn’t have space for the mom and the 9 pups she brought. They are amazing, intelligent, really acrobatic dogs !! Can jump and climb any fence😅!! Really hard to contain them since my land around the house is around 5 thousand meters squared! had to really raise all the fences and walls! It’s like a mix between cat and dog 🤣 but they also obey at first command and easy to tame and train from very young age which is crazy !! Didn’t have this ease with my two English staffies that’s for sure ! Best Dogs ever !!
